ESTA Update for Citizens of VWP Countries
Travellers from Visa Waiver countries who wish to visit the United States for tourism, medical and business trips of less than 90 days can apply for ESTA using an online portal. Once approval has been received by email, it is recommended that you print out a copy and carry it with you. Airlines should be able to access your ESTA approval online, but you may be asked to show your ESTA number before you are allowed to board your flight.
All travellers intending to visit the United States are responsible for ensuring that their ESTA information is up-to-date and valid before boarding any flight or vessel. If any legal changes have been made to your passport, or if your passport has been renewed since your authorisation approval, you must apply for a new ESTA so that it exactly matches your passport details.
The only exceptions that allow you to update an ESTA without having to re-apply for a new one are:
- Changing the address where you will be staying in the United States
- Changing your current email address, if different from the one used in the original application
In these two instances, you may use the ESTA update service via the third-party link we provide for your convenience. However, these changes must be made before you depart for the United States; they cannot be updated when you are in transit. For this reason, we recommend checking your travel authorisation well before you board any flight or vessel bound for the USA. You cannot update your ESTA if any legal information has changed, such as your citizenship, name or gender, or if you have had a new passport since your last approval. In those instances, you must apply for a new travel authorisation.
